In a groundbreaking move to promote environmental sustainability, the Punjab government has rolled out a new initiative that allows residents of Lahore to receive free plant delivery in Lahore at their doorstep. This first-of-its-kind campaign, titled “Plant for Pakistan”, is being spearheaded under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and implemented by the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA).
The campaign aims to foster a greener urban environment and encourage residents to participate in tree plantation without leaving their homes. Citizens can simply dial the helpline number 1399, register their personal details, and request plants of their choice. The selected plants are then delivered free of cost directly to the requester’s home.
According to Director General PHA, Mansoor Ahmed, a diverse selection of 17 plant species is being offered. These include fruit-bearing, aromatic, and shade-giving varieties to meet different ecological and aesthetic needs.
Fruit-bearing trees: Mango, Pomegranate, Jamun, Mulberry Fragrant plants: Raat Ki Rani, Gulchen, Har SangharShade and ornamental trees: Neem, Pulkan, Patajan, Chandna, Vew, Kachnar, Amaltas, Tapiobia, Jurufa, Washingtonia Palm
The free plant delivery in Lahore initiative not only promotes household greenery but also aims to shift public attitudes toward environmental conservation. “Delivering plants to every household is a citizen-friendly initiative that encourages tree plantation and enhances urban greenery,” said DG PHA Mansoor Ahmed.
This citizen-centric program marks a major step under the Green Punjab campaign, reflecting the government’s broader vision for environmental preservation. Lahore, a city known for its rapid urbanization and pollution challenges, stands to benefit immensely from increased vegetation and ecological awareness.
The campaign is also expected to set a precedent for other cities in Pakistan, highlighting the importance of accessible, public-driven green initiatives. By making plant acquisition simple and cost-free, the government is removing one of the key barriers that often discourage tree planting at the individual level.
Environmental experts have praised the Green Punjab campaign, noting that such practical steps can significantly impact air quality, urban temperatures, and public health over time. Trees not only offer shade and beauty but also help reduce carbon emissions and promote biodiversity.
This initiative is more than just a plantation drive — it’s a call to action for every resident to become a part of the climate solution. As the campaign gains momentum, its long-term success will depend on public participation and care for the distributed plants.
With the helpline now operational, citizens of Lahore are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity and contribute to building a greener, healthier city — one plant at a time.
